Child’s Story: Aisha Abdi’s Dream

Child's Story: Aisha Abdi's Dream

Meet Aisha Abdi

Background:

Aisha Abdi, a 12-year-old girl from northern Kenya, dreams of becoming an engineer. Living in a remote village, Aisha has always been a dedicated student. However, when she began menstruating, the lack of access to sanitary products started to interfere with her education.

The Challenge:

Aisha, like many girls in her region, found it difficult to attend school during her period due to the lack of sanitary products. This meant missing several days of school each month, which disrupted her learning. Aisha felt embarrassed and ashamed when she returned to class after missing lessons, and she feared that her academic performance would suffer.

The Change:

Through our program, Aisha received a monthly supply of sanitary products and learned about menstrual hygiene. With this support, she no longer had to miss school and was able to focus fully on her education.

The Impact:

  • Consistent School Attendance: Aisha now attends school without interruption and no longer has to worry about missing important lessons.
  • Academic Excellence: With her attendance back on track, Aisha’s grades have improved, and she’s regaining her confidence in math and science, her favorite subjects.
  • Increased Confidence: Aisha’s self-esteem has grown since she no longer feels ashamed or embarrassed about her period. She is focused on her education and her goal of becoming an engineer.
